International transport corridors
One of the most important factors, influencing the port of Illichivsk development and operation, is its favourable position at the junction of main transport routes between Europe and Asia, North and South, Central and Eastern industrially developed regions of Russia and Ukraine and sea communications, running across the Mediterranean Sea into the Atlantic or Indian oceans.
Some international transport corridors pass via the port of Illichivsk as follows:
Euro-Asian transport corridor (TRACECA);
Cretan Corridor No. 9;
Transport corridor Baltic — Black Sea.
The favorable factor of development of transportations through the port of Illichivsk is its direct affinity to an autobahn Kiev – Odessa.
